Carthy & Swarb - awesome.

I love Martin's voice.

This track is a corker!

James McMurtry was interesting - I am not familiar

Broad church folk methinks - very enjoyable soem nice fuzzy electric guitar - the downside was it's a little too long and I lost interest after about 6 minutes

So, A has it

A has it

Lots of praise for Swarb here, but how about Carthy's guitar playing? Jansch, Renbourne, Graham, Frank...all great. They, to some degree, have some similarities. Nobody plays quite like Carthy. And the lite-psych pushers should take note that it was released in 1967. Same year as the Moby Grape, Hendrix, Doors, and Velvets debuts. I don't put this much below them.

Otherwise, I'm going to rest on what C said. B is the son of "Lonesome Dove" writer Larry McMurtry but, imo, has not inherited his dad's skill for tight narrative (though I recognize his intensity and forthrightness as a good thing).

Easy, easy. A.

B is lovely!

And also because my definitive version of A (apart from the immortal Young Tradition one, of course) is this:

Thumpety-thump beats plinkety-plonk every time. - Rayge

I liked both of these, A is the more folky of the two but I just slightly prefered B

A's one of those folk tracks that was probably written for Morris dancing, rather than for drinking yourself into a depressed stupor. And I'm definitely a depressed stupor kinda guy. I just find this kinda thing a bit forced. T'is good guitar from McCarthy though.

B's really not my kinda thing at all, either, and not very folky. Some kinda country-tinged rawk dirge, with a condescending vocal style.

A
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

A: Widdly
B: I'd be thrown out of Texas if I didn't carry water for James.

I have plenty of time for Swarb of course but stuff like this can get a bit "jigs and reels" which os fine but tends to sounde generic and I have all McMurtyry's albums, so
