Maddy and June - beautiful.
Just beautiful.
I am not familiar with Megson - for those that know more than me - is that an authentic Durham accent because it sounds somewhat contrived...
It was pleasant enough but didn't grab me like The Sillies
So, A has it
A has it

I don't want to be too prejudiced against new stuff - B is perfectly nice and is a good song. Just wonder what they'd be if they didn't have stuff like A to use as a model.
Anyway, I think June is a touch overrated, and Maddy underrated, but that is still a beautiful blend. One of the best arrangements on a landmark album.

Well, I didn't notice who A actually were, I was fearing the worst seeing a name like The Silly Sisters, but this is two class singers doing a duet in quite an exquisite way. As hatz rightly says, that's how it's done.
So, is this Neil or Gary? Strange that a Megson should do a song about football, really. Certainly is a long shot in this tie, they've been unlucky. It's not a particularly bad track, but the lyric is kind of annoying, rahter than funny.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I like Silly Sisters, but that track is a bit monotonous from a purely melodic perspective, even though the harmonies are of course lovely. Track B is okay. Think I'll go with that one today.

The one track from Silly Sisters I like least pitted against a northern folk duo I've never heard before singing a pretty ditty with a weird accent...

B enchanted me and annoyed me in equal measures. That awful "professional northerner" intonation got right up my nose.

Both are ok, though not hugely up my street.
Maybe b for the melody.

B reminds me of my friend David Bridie's work, turning the mundane into urban poetry. I like it.
The gravity of A is stark contrast to it but it has a greater longevity. Love the arrangement and the opposite timbres meshing so well.
