I couldn't get my head around A at all - it seemed to be all over the place. Sorry

Fairport with a very safe choice - I don't vote for safe choices and this one is a bit lazy.

I'll listen a bit more....

A is not getting any better and B is a corker that brings a tear to the eye.

Naughty selector - very safe... But B

So B has it

B has it

A is an absolute joy and a brilliant discovery. Rarely has cult status been so appropriately bestowed.

I love B, of course. Yes, the "of course" is the problem here...

A

Stone Angel are a completely under the radar folk band from Norfolk who are marking their 45th anniversary this year.

FC not today, sorry.

I think A sticks admirably to its guns but I am not crazy on the amassed guitar sound.
B is indeed a lazy classic.

Not a big fan of A: I expect they are very pleasant in an intimate folk club, but as a stand alone track it didn't really move me.
B is a masterpiece of course, although I am a bit burned out on it because I hear it live so often. But.....

+B+

still wins it.

A. I’m not voting for the lazy choice in this cup.

B is good but I've heard it a hundred times and a lazy choice as others have noted. It would still get my vote if the other track was the bloody Wurzels again but fortunately A was pretty good.

Both of these are new to me, A because I've never heard of Stone Angel, and B because I never really approved of Fairport Convention. I really like the vocal to A, it has a fragility, she struggles to be heard above the plucking of strings. It has a honest quality about it, feels genuinely like a bunch of people just got together in a windy barn by the sea, before burning an itinerant policeman. An unexpected treasure.

Electric bass, it'll ruin a folk song any time. It's another that's more buried within the rock tradition really, an all the less interesting for it. A bit of a stadium crowd pleaser, that doesn't please me at all.

A easily. Well played, whoever that was.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Ultra-obscure against ultra-well-known...

According to Discogs, original Stone Angel LPs go for close to 1000 quid!

Pity it just isn't that good.

A -sort of liked A but didn't really go anywhere that gets me excited about it. The vocals are nice and so is the music but its not enough. Maybe another track?

B - a safe choice but a good one.

A was OK but didn't quite grab me as some great new discovery as it did others. B is simply great, so despite being an onvious choice...
