Are we there yet? Soon, lad, soon, but first of all I have to listen to some film music.
a - Generally, I find this sort of thing annoying, I'm with Coan on this, but I've yet to abstain through this 1970s cup, although I have chosen not to vote in some ties. Yes, I've seen this movie, but have no memory of the music, which is as it should be. Unless it's a musical, the soundtrack is only there to set, heighten or change the mood. Without the pictures, it's just some vaguely Italianate decontextualized rubbish, in this case reminding me irresistibly of Cornetto adverts.
1 / 10
b - Yep, seen this one too, in a double-bill with Don't Look Now when it came out, although my watching pleasure was somewhat mitigated by (a) a full-on migraine, (b) the utterly risible Hammer-horror view of paganism and the occult (almost expected someone to shout, 'Don't look at the eyes, Rex', or Michael Ripper to turn up, say a couple of lines and die gruesomely) and (c) Britt Ekland's impersonation of a sexy plank. But at list this is a bona fide song, rather than some pointless chuntering. So who is actually singing? Not Paul giovanni, I presume. Anyway, this is dull and uninteresting, and sound-tracked one of the most embarrassing things I ever saw in a movie theatre, but at least it's a song. Of sorts. 3 / 10
B
Right, that's my 1500 words of wisdom, invective, kvetching and sneering for today, and I've already presented the equivalent of another 13,000-odd in my photo thread (1 pic=1000 words, the going rate). After listening to 20-odd songs chosen by other people, I could do with a nice lie-down.
I doubt that Stalky will be appearing in round two, which is a pity, as I've seen the songs on his list, and they're all killers

I like some film scores. But I rarely listen to just the one lone track. Makes this a bit difficult .
But then I listen and... I think B is absolute tosh.
A it is then.

Re: 70s KnockOut Cup Match 1
this really is a trip of a pairing, right off the bat.
two powerful films, i dunno how much i am *truly* able to listen to the music as standalone. the context comes flooding in anyway.
so B it.

I’m not really taken with either, to be honest. However B is probably better as a stand alone.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I'm a bit late to the voting, but here's hoping I can get through with all of them today. Anyhow, cool match to start off I suppose... A's a fine theme for an excellent film, but this Thursday morning B's doing a lot more for me, has that understated eerieness to it of the Comus track earlier on in the cup.

I love Nino Rota.... but there's nothing remotely "seventies" about this waltz.

Well, I happen to own and like the OSTs of Godfather; got I and III, and looking for II in thrift.
I was almost going to vote for B, mainly for the exquisite finger picking in the intro, but when that lady opens her mouth, it just becomes sappy and airy fairy.

Thank you Osgood. I thought you were going to get a late splurge of votes to catch up. Pleased to make it through against a classic pick.
