Re: CC Final Round Match 4
Countrifying an absolute classic, that's a bit of a risk, I'm not sure they're pulling it off exactly, but you can't argue that they aren't doing something quite different from the original. It's just not pleasant to my ears though.
I don't think I've ever heard the original or the remake of B. I really must have dropped off the planet around this time. I thought Kurt was generally considered to have better taste than this, it's not an interesting song in any way. I guess 'Unplugged' didn't mean stripped-back for Nirvana. I think I could listen to this track more easily than the other, but it's still not doing much. It's close, but I think I can just about give it to The Nirvanas.

Re: CC Final Round Match 4
A is cute, but the song doesn't really particularly lend itself to the treatment, does it? If they either made it great country or a revisionist version of the song that would be one thing, but this is neither. It's a clever novelty, but a novelty.
B is a predictable choice, but it's also a cover of a cover of a cover, which says something about the folk process, I guess. That's enough to make me forgive the obviousness, just. At least in this context.

B is much better. The treatment works with the song.
I agree totally with Hatz about A, it feels lightweight and slightly facile.

Tempted to abstain since I don't like either. As I said in some other match, I have problems when the song gets impossible to recognize, as it's happening in A. So
B it is
B it is

A is awkward and contrived, B is (not the best cover from the Unplugged album but) a pleasant if hardly outstanding song played nicely.

a - Well, it's got to be better than the original, because those first two Stooges albums are as bright as yesterday's dishwater. And it's hardly a country treatment to my ears. Not bad at all.5.5 / 10
b - Never really understood KC's love of the Vaselines. I mean, they were all right, with a nice interplay between the voices, but I never thought much of this song. It's an OK cover, I guess Kurt has a 'better' voice than Eugene (not hard), but Grohl is no Frances, and overall this is a pretty dull version of a rather dreary ditty. And it's live too, so gets the -2 penalty.
That makes 2.5 / 10

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
