Andy Hope has pm'd me to opt out so the updated list is:

1. Trans-Chigley Express
2. soundchaser
3. NMB
4. Whodathunkit
5. fangedango
6. Dust&guitars
7. epikaff
8. pb
9. clive gash
10. The Robust One
11. The Cruiser
12. Apollo's Frock
13. algroth
14. A Saucer full of Piglets (reigning champion )
15. lord_of_plight88
16. BlueMeanie
17. Loki
18. Huw
19. Maryann

19 people is still ok but it will mean that each week there is 1 person who won't get a match. Actually I've been looking for a method of having 3 people per match but fixture generating software does not seem to exist for such a format and I'm no maths wizard.

It looks like 18 matches each then. I propose that everyone sends me their first 10 songs (with youtube links) and then send the other songs later so it's not too much to come up with in one go and allows for a tactical change of approach for the second half of the season.

Start sending whenever ready.

OK, to be clear, songs will be arbitrarily chosen from our lists, so I didn't need to spend time arranging them? Or maybe I read something wrong. Sorry, I'm out of town and distracted.

Oh go on then. :D

I tend to avoid these things tbh, as they become a bit of a time vampire but what the heck, it's nice to be invited.

Assuming we have 20 players, I think it will be 19 songs, as you won't be playing yourself.
Just 10 songs to start with, though, so not too daunting. If you get stuck for songs, ask Huw ;).

Off we jolly well go :D!

That means 20 songs to listen to every week (assuming we include our own). And I suspect most of them will be quite long. Does everyone have time to do that? Or we could stagger it and have 10 matches one week and the other 10 the following week? The downside of that is the competition would take 38 weeks to complete.

We still could do 10 songs each though- it means that not everybody has to go up against all others.

In true prog fashion we could do it very slowly...we don't have to rush it through like with the Cup.

Indeed, what's the hurry, the prog season should be very long: Treebeard would like that, yes...Hmm Ha.

Why not make it one match a day, Monday to Friday? Two songs to check out a day seems quite reasonable to me. And we can have weekends off...listening to more prog!

It's a win/win :D.

One or two matches a day sounds good to me. Would give TCE time to breathe.

These are valid points that I've pondered myself. I'm thinking at the moment to restrict the competition to 10 rounds so each person will be limited to just 10 random opponents from the list rather than play everyone which I think will simply take too long. No one will get the same opponet twice though. I can post 5 matches a week so just 10 songs to listen to rather than 20 at least at first just to see how it pans out.

Another option is to have 3 play each other in a match rather than 2 and play ten rounds like that. The maths behind working this out so no one plays against the same person twice is proving difficult however. It's like a very difficult version of Suduko and I've given up on this idea.

Also I've added Lord Rother to my list.
