This could be a first - the bitter recrimination arrived before the result was announced! Unfortunately, B was martha, who will be missed from the tournament. Furthermore, A's already sent me five new songs; are these the two keenest contestants in the competition?

One of the most satisfying things in this whole 2012 Cup experience for me, martha, is that once you started making noise that you were tanking in this round, I decided to try to figure out which of the active matches was martha's.
And I'd guessed correctly.
Plus, was satisfied that I'd not contributed negatively to tally.

More than can be said regarding how you voted in all my matches. But no worries. Really. Diminishes nothing.

I feel as though I must commiserate here. Like you things were going well for me-- I felt confident coming out of the first round and then I ran up against that list which treated my list like its bitch. I'm calling it Behemoth for it seems some indestructible force of nature. I admire your approach. You're that kid who takes grounders past dark, spends the last of his allowance at the batting cage to improve his swing, but it doesn't really help because Behemoth also plays your position. Behemoth, who seems to effortlessly find the gap between center and right field. Even with a defensive swing, Behemoth magically pops the ball just fair over the first baseman's head; rolls out of bed with a cannon for an arm. And you just want one inning, two at the most, to field your position. I mean Christ, Coach, your team is up eight runs. You want to make your old man proud, it's all you've ever wanted...

Sorry, my analogy got a little too real for me. As for your list, the first ten are unimpeachable, I may argue that the Toots track doesn't quite measure up with the rest of your heavy hitters, but that's a small quibble and that Jimmy Ricks tracks is solid gold.

I think things start to get a little shakier in the next five. I noticed this:

This was for Minnie. But it's a great track.

Why are we always drawn to celebrity? Is it because their flame burns so brightly? I too made the mistake of trying to appeal to one half of BCB's royalty, the Brangelina of the internet music boards (have we settled on Baronnie or Minron to mark the merging of these two supernovas?). I tossed not one but two tracks Baron's way: Sleater Kinney's Start Together and Little Junior Parker's Driving Wheel and my heart did swoon when he selected my list with his qualified approbation, though his warning that my list needed to find its footing would prove all too prophetic. When Behemoth tossed a third rate A Tribe Called Quest track his way in round 2, he was all Little Junior who? The truth is celebrity are a fickle lot, you think they're thinking about your list, but they've got other concerns: making plans for their sojourn to the Texas Riviera, picking out the perfect adorable Cambodian orphan to adopt, or ending genocide in Sudan.

I can give you the skinny on your Goldfrapp selection from the BCB drone's perspective: it feels like you're mocking us. Most of us haven't been to a club in over 15 years. We have no idea what even happens there though I have vague notions of bodies perfectly conditioned from exercise machines I wouldn't know how to operate, a pervasive mood of collective self satisfaction from drugs I've never heard of, and glitter; shitloads of glitter.

And as for Dead Can Dance it seems like a fine enough track, but we can't get past the unsettling feeling that one of those guys was really into Dungeons and Dragons at one point. And as far as Fever Ray and Massive Attack; my feeling is you get one, not both.

I realize that this unsolicited advice from a guy who's gone 0 for 2 in his attempts to get out of the second round is unexpected, but there is no need to thank me now. Just a quick shout out while you're hoisting the 2013 BCB Cup high above your head.
