Independence from Britain is celebrated somewhere in the world, on average, one in every seven days. A total of 65 countries have claimed their independence.

I found out that today the number of COVID infections in the Netherlands is 12,049, which is the most this since December 2020. And that with 80% of the adult population fully vaccinated. I've been boosted and booked to fly home next Thursday and stick around for a couple of weeks. Also found out I didn't have the guts and decided to remain in spacious Texas.

Doubtful...

Although it depends on your definition of 'soon' - it's all relative

Mantan's biographer, Michael Price, states Moreland was briefly considered as a possible addition to the Three Stooges. After Shemp Howard died of a sudden heart attack on November 22, 1955, at age 60, Moe Howard was said had been observing Moreland's act for years and offered Moreland a chance to join the act as the new "third stooge" at the behest of his late brother Shemp. Moreland was reported to be enthusiastic about the offer, but Columbia Pictures insisted on a comedian already under contract. Joe Besser, one of a few comedians still making comedy shorts at the studio, was eventually recruited to join the act in 1956

Mantan Moreland would've been great as one of the Three Stooges. Saw "King of the Zombies" a few months ago and he was great as was Marguerite Whitten. :)

Just seen part of a local newspaper headline that read,..

"Furious Mum, 37"

..and I thought it would be a great name for a band. That's all.

Yahweh still mad at the Pharoah? But seriously, that sounds awful. Locally we had an invasion of homes by Japanese Lady Beetles, which are cute and harmless.

I just learned that Dave of Dave & Ansell Collins was actually named Dave Barker (Crooks). I'd always assumed he was Dave Collins, brother of Ansell.

Nottingham was originally named Stotingaham, after a Saxon chieftain named Snot (or Snod).

Is it Snotingham or Stot (or Stod)?

I learnt it from QI, and checked it on Wikipedia - Snotingaham, after Snot, according to them. (Otherwise it presumably would have ended up being called Tottingham or Stottingham rather than Nottingham.)

"Brass Monkey" by the Beastie Boys sounds best if you read the lyrics in the voice of Jimmy Savile.

My dentist told me about his rock and roll days which are amazing. He was in Hollywood/Sunset Strip in 65 and 66 and saw all the bands including Buffalo Springfield at the Whiskey A Go Go. Moved back to Sacramento in 67 to continue his education at UC Davis where he organized rock shows. He got the Grass Roots for $800 for two forty minute sets. When he wanted to bring them back his LA connection offered him an unknown band for $1200 and said they were going to be big They have a single coming called Light My Fire and it’s going to be huge! Greg decided to go with the band he knew he could sell tickets for instead of the Doors (“what a dumb name”).

He managed the Oxford Circle which morphed into Blue Cher of course and he saw all the SF bands as they were exploding including the Dead, Airplane etc.

He was best friends with Ethan Russell, met him while they were both students in Davis. Ethan shot the Who’s Next Cover, Let It Be and some Stones.

What a life!
