Well done Prof for coming up with this idea btw. It seems the best solution all round.

It's genius. But let's see how long it holds for.

I think Rorschach needs to take some of the credit. Or, if it turns out to be the worst idea ever, all the blame!

Yeah you're right.
Looking at the list of inactive users, it seems that November 2019 was when the last bunch of spammers registered, but that can't be right as they've been coming through fairly regularly.

It's good to have a resource like Preludin when you need to find out how BCB is run.

The Domain name will need paying for. and even if the software is free there must be a cost to host it and keep the adverts out, I would have thought.

Bumping this, just for the hell of it.
The consensus seems pretty clear here.
And cheers to Prof for coming up with the 'compromise,' but I'm thinking it's five months later and it seems pretty clear - to me, at least - that it's not working.

Perhaps you missed all the people saying that they never saw his posts anymore or didn’t even know he was still here. Are other people posting down there? My life is too short to look, but it’s an out of the way place and there’s no need to ever look at it.

Re: Ban Jimbo?
No, I saw it. I agree it's an out of the way place, but as I say on the other thread, I and other people like to use the 'new posts' feature and his constant posting often clogs it up quite a bit.
And I think it's telling that none of those people are saying there's any advantage in keeping him around. Just that they're doing a better job than I am of avoiding him. I'm not hearing a single defense for keeping him around, in fact, other than a kind of half-hearted one by Googa.
Other people - including me - have posted there a bit, but the last several pages are all endless propaganda.
My main point - that him being here serves neither him nor any of us - is, by my interpretation, being confirmed by the responses.

Re: Ban Jimbo?
I think the reason he uses BCB as a platform is that his kind of posts would be deleted by Facebook. But BCB is not obliged to provide a platform. If only he'd be more collegial and join in other discussions, it would not be as clear cut.

Exactly.
There are all kinds of places where one can post these kinds of things - he has chosen BCB for one reason and one reason only - we allow it.
By continuing to do so, we are basically saying we agree to be the platform for this. But is it an appropriate platform? I think the answer to this is pretty clear.
The 'compromise' may have resulted in posts that are easier to avoid, but has it lessened the amount of them, or increased the thoughtfulness of them? No, it's done the exact opposite.
As queasy as I feel about something as severe as 'banning' (particularly publicly taking responsibility for the decision) it really seems like the only possible option at this point. And as I've said, I have had at least five or six people that have directly told me they'd post more and look in more were he not around. And zero who've said his absence would discourage them in any way.
Hence the 'change of heart' about taking responsibility for it. Haven't changed my mind about whether the actual act of banning would have a positive affect on the board as a whole in the slightest. I thought (and said) back then that the answer was a definitive 'yes.'

Just for the record, what 'OUTPLAY' has to say on the matter is completely irrelevant to this discussion.

Where does he post? I don't think I have read a Jimbo post for weeks?
Pray tell. He's very entertaining.

By 'he's very entertaining' do you mean you'd miss him if he were gone? Does him being here enhance your board experience in any way?
I've been told he also posts in the Word Association Thread, but I never go there so I can't attest to the veracity of that.
