Stupidity

Postby Poppypoobah » 17 Aug 2012, 11:52

It amazes me sometimes, It shouldn't but it does!

Yesterday I was having a chat with an old school friend about a cat of hers who has been weeing on her daughters bed. She has more than one cat. We have one who does that and after googling for a few minutes we found a cheap natural way to get rid of the odor so that the cat who was doing it never went back to that spot. So I give her the my goggled advice and I hear more of the story, she suspects two of her cats, one is a cat she's had for years who the vet says might have cancer, the other is a 9 month old kitten who is a replacement cat for her daughter after the last one (who peed on the hardwood floors was conveniently crushed by the garage door). You can see where I am going here, but that's not all. Oh no, the old cat sleeps at the foot of her daughters bed, the new kitten has just had all four paws declawed and yet has not been fixed (they couldn't afford both, or cancer treatment for the old cat) so more important than getting 9 month old female kitten spayed it was "lets lob off every claw that this cat has", who has not been fixed, can't defend herself against MALES, and as punishment to the new kitten who she thought wee'd on her daughters pillow, she put it outside. Argggg!

So this morning, I awake to find more messages from old friend, it's the old cat who did it, she's taking him in to get put down today. then five minutes later this friend (who when we were kids told me her mother said she shouldn't play with me because my parents were "divorced!") sends me this

Image a kitten wedding bouquet? Seriously?

I was just about to suggest pet insurance might be a good idea for this multiple cat family when I decided no, she won't care about that she is more worried about wee and having to wash pillows than the suffering of her old cat and the future suffering of the new kitten and it's more than likely kittens in a few months. Poppypoobah who is laying on my desk just said to banish her and never speak to her again. Our valuable time should not be wasted on stupid people who declaw all four paws (who was the vet who said yep that's a great idea!?) and don't spay or newter.

So what is the latest thing that had you shaking your head in a ""how could anyone be that stupid" and "I never really liked them anyway", kind of way?

And don't say this thread, because I am a hair's breath away from going postal!

That's ok I can't either, but I just got an email where she is trying to blame the old cat's behavior on the new kitten. I said pet insurance for the rest of themplease for the love of god and kitten bouquets!

From what I can make of that mess, she is having the older cat put down for "suspected" cancer.

At the shelter yesterday, someone had brought their pregnant cat in because they 'didn't have time to look after kittens'. (Presumably also didnt have time to get it spayed). Mum was so freaked out at being separated from her family that she rejected all three of her lovely kittens and they all died.

I would love to meet the owner of the cat, for a polite and civilised chat, and a firm handshake.

As our cat loves ripping gouges out of our leather sofas and never goes out (aside from one famous sortie onto the 2-foot wide ledge outside my office/spare bedroom when I foolishly left the window open while going for a slash), I thought about having it declawed. When I found out how traumatic it was for the poor cat, I quickly learned to live with the scratches. Having been told first hand how cruel declawing, fail to see how anyone could have it done to a pet especially when they neglect to have it speyed...
