Hmmmm.

Y is theoretically a consonant but is considered a semivowel or glide

Grrrr!

Well of course. My point was since they are using Y as a vowel it doesn’t count.

I got RHYTHM.
Which of course is six letters, so according to the strict rules of the competition, means I win…?

Frankly, Y is used as a full vowel in most if not all of the examples mentioned. In Swedish we count it as a vowel, although it denotes a different sound, similar but not identical to German’s ”ü”. And it never takes a consonant sound, e.g. ”yellow” - we use ”j” for that.

We also have three further vowels, å, ä and ö, so nine in total.

Here’s a cute one: are two words in English where the five vowels appear in alphabetical order, once and once only - which?

I think "facetious" is one of them.
Can't think of the other one though.

Oh hang on, isn't "facetiously" a word?
Any chance that's the second one????

Yes!
The other one begins, in fact, with ”a”.

Abstemious!

As Duran Duran nearly sang
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.
