These words are using Y as a vowel so how are these five letter words without vowels? Am I missing something here?

Hmmmm.

Y is theoretically a consonant but is considered a semivowel or glide

Grrrr!

Of course things might be different across the other side of the pond…

After all a pavement is referred to as a sidewalk- just to remind folk they need to walk on the side not in the middle of the road which may be deemed as danger

Phpht…!

Flyby

There are several words in informal English that don't have a 'Y', such as brrrr and (riot) grrls and others that have been mentioned, that qualify, but also a couple of words taken from Welsh, such as crwth.

You most certainly can't exclude the latter no matter what rules you want to have, unless you're going to exclude the 50% (or whatever it is!) of English vocabulary that comes from other languages.
Bugger off.

Welsh? What’s that?

Interestingly Y is not part of the traditional Irish alphabet which only has 18 letters

although I believe that had to go on hold during The Falklands War due to the small community of Welsh speakers in Argentinian Patagonia.

Post Script:

Wow - I didn’t know that! Thanks

Patagonian Welsh is a variety of the Welsh language spoken in Y Wladfa, the Welsh settlement in Patagonia, Chubut Province, Argentina. Patagonian Welsh has developed to be a distinct dialect of Welsh, different from the several dialects used in Wales itself; however, the dialects have a high degree of mutual intelligibility, and speakers from Wales and Patagonia are able to communicate readily. Numerous toponyms throughout the Chubut Valley are of Welsh origin.

History
In 1865, 153 Welsh settlers arrived in the Chubut Valley in Patagonia on the converted tea-clipper Mimosa. They established the first Welsh-Argentine settlement, Y Wladfa, which translates to "The Colony" in Welsh. The settlers established Welsh-language towns and schools, and the area became known as Welsh Patagonia
