I was expecting a good read from you Fred and you didn't disappoint. Now I feel a need to search out that Proust book. Being 57 and a slow reader I'd better start asap. :)

Tres cool read! Well met sir and thanks for the great story!

I feel a kinship with your brothers (Thierry for his jazz-rock influences) and Jean for the Supergrass-shrug (that band really didn't do much for me).

my question as well.

i also have problems with that bit, "or worse (Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd)." uh huh. fred, how do you say 'asspickly, fucquemongering bastion of a prog-bashing bastard' in french?

still, an excellent entry. i love the pro-con sibling thing... i love 'the american prairie and the british county.' as a beatles/stones/neil freak, i relate to so much here. (i had my own neil young chord books, vols 1 and 2. i'd butcher those chords and those songs endlessly on my ole acoustic guild. ya ya on the ya-yas, although my first stones was hot rocks. as for the beatles, my sibs had very different musical tastes~~my sister was all 60s pop, one brother was classic rock/prog/blues/bach, another brother jazz~~but everybody met at the beatles. i can't ever remember not hearing the beatles. ) i dig fats and supergrass, too, although nowhere close to freak level.

i love mrs. neverknows's's photo. i would love to see more of her pics. wouldn't you love to post more of her pics?

p.s. i'm shocked to discover that you've ever won prizes for yer english. shocked. resorting to bribery is never something you should flaunt, though, is it?

there is much to be said for skinny french boys with guitars, even if they're all jailbait.

whether you realize it or not, i am a fanatic for photos, in general. i love photos. i think her stuff is great, all the way through. some of my faves as serieses go... mister soap and the smiling tomatoes (ya can't go wrong with that band name, anyway)... pivoine (of course, siiiigh)... ray bartok... my lass chrissie hynde. i don't know a damn thing about photography, mind ya, but i love what she does not only with faces and live shots but with color, i.e. some of those mister soap shots, the birds-eye shot of les shades. (i would also like to give props to the bass player from the shades and his luvly tee shirt of sinatra's mug shot.)

the fred shots are nice, too. (1) the one with you, yer girl, and earl, while he is doing something suspicious to yer chin; and (2) the where's waldo pic, last of the series in the crowd shot section.

my fave pic of all, not taken by yer wife: when she's in the water with the pool floaties and the white hat. that's just one of the grooviest pics i've ever seen.

i have a few important questions, however: what IS the deal with the leopard-spot bed? do all french musicians meet at the leopard-spot bed? whose bed is that, and does that person mind all the traffic? these are the things that matter.

This was superb, Fred. This has been a great series. It can open up different ways of "relating" to other (often very familiar) posters in new ways. The almost random method of picking up new stuff -- probably caused by what's available due to geography and finance -- really clicked with me. It's a different world now with so much information and so much available on the internet. The way we (as kids) used to go about discovering music was comparatively haphazard. Enough about me. Fucking great work, my friend!
