What a sweet message from his daughter. How sad. I never corresponded with Gater; my condolences to you all who were good friends with him.

Just come back from a few days away to read this.
Truly sad news.
All my love and best wishes to the family, especially Holly, a very brave young lady.
You are in my thoughts.
RIP big fella.

I always enjoyed his posts. Just six years older than me.

Never met the guy, but I'm taking this a bit personally.

And I don't take much personally.

I feel sorry for his daughter. She's lost a mom and a dad in a year, essentially.

He was the first guy to "sloop" me in the mix club and I don't hold it against him at all.

Awful. I'm struggling to imagine how much of a trial this past year must have been for you, Holly.

I knew very little about Gater but it's clear as day that he was a total gent. Go well.

Mick,

Hope all is well. The absence of your review for this is causing a few 'issues'. Myself, I just hope you're okay mate?

I knew Gater as Mick - it threw me when we had a thread and everyone was referring to him as "Rob"?

I've been trying to find the mix on my computer that I sent him that never got reviewed. I didn't think it was THAT bad to not get reviewed.

I have it around somewhere and I'll try posting it in the mix club somewhere.

Just back from my short vacation. What sad news.

Gater was always happy to share music with people and I'm gonna miss him.

RIP.

I haven't been around here for over a week, so this is very very sad news to come back to.

I didn't really have much interaction with Gater, but he was obviously very well loved on here by those who did.

My condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends.

I've just read the terrible news. I admire Holly's courage and i deeply thank her for having written to Yves.

I had never met Rob, but we swapped CDs at least twice... it may sound too "light" to say it now, but his Teenage Kicks CD is one of those comps I still regularly listen to - not to mention his year-by-year project that I used for my own project 100 Discs For a Century.

I write this just not to weep.

RIP, good guy.

I didn't know him obviously...I suppose the best I can think is that never knowing when our time will come- the best we can hope for is to have made a lasting impression so that you are remembered and your loss is felt. Seems obvious that his life was impactful, and its right that we should mourn his passing, but also know that it was a life well spent and he can rest peacefully with that knowledge.

Many thanks to Holly for taking the time to write to Yves and to Yves for sharing. It must have been so hard for her but maybe tempered by the fact she knew her Dad valued this place so much.

It has been a difficult year. Gotta hate 08.

You are stardust now, Rob. Shine on.

One of the good guys.

Thanks for letting us know hollie and our sympathies are with you and your family.

Your father loved his music and was very generous. We exchanged many discs.

I'll be playing indigo Girls, Grand Funk & Don Henley this week. We shared good taste in music!
