Four weddings and a funeral

This is on BBC iplayer. I watched it, probably for the first time since seeing it at the cinema back in 1994.
I was surprised at how good it was to watch these days. Leaving aside some of the plot holes, like why does Carrie turn up at the second wedding or invite everybody to her own wedding, it is a tight set of vignettes neatly written and with some astounding set pieces: of course John Hannah's rendering of Funeral Blues tops the lot, but - spoiler alert, if really necessary - the scene where Fiona confesses her love for Charles is brilliantly done. Richard Curtis's writing was rarely better than in this film.
And then cast, much less well-known then (and including the tragic Charlotte Coleman), are uniformly very good.

Indeed. There's a suffocating blandness to the whole thing which makes it difficult to feel much.

They also did a new updated series of it on All 4 which both my wife and I enjoyed.

I've seen it three times... and I'm not with the cognoscenti elite, but with Limpin' Jez.

I think it's great British comedy, with likable characters and a clever script

I'm not a big fan (watched it multiple times because the wife's a sucker for this kind of stuff, and she likes the bloke that gets on the roof), but try the American version and you'll think the UK version is the next best thing since sliced bread.
