This Is America

From the always subtle Sam Fuller:

The James Baldwin bio I'm reading coupled with current events reminded me of this scene.

I love Shock Corridor and The Naked Kiss, really vibrant and pulpy stuff. I've never seen any of his others though. Any recommendations?

Absolutely.

A Korean War / Gene Evans two-fer:

The Steel Helmet & Fixed Bayonets!

I prefer the latter of those, though I'm not sure about DVD availability. I've only seen it on TV.

Park Row is his ode to the Newspaper business and worth checking out.

Pickup on South Street - a spy drama with the always badass Richard Widmark.

Another I've only seen on TV is the crime drama Underworld U.S.A.

One that is readily available is White Dog.

Haven't seen the war movies, but can heartily endorse Pick-up and Park Row.

Ah yes, White Dog is one I've wanted to see for years. I'll start with that one and then go from there. Cheers!

Congratulations, $P.Muff$, whenever I review a Fuller film here, nobody says shit. You actually got a few responses!

Apparently the trick is putting in the least amount of effort possible.

Any Fuller favorites you'd like to mention here?

I've seen several others - 'Baron of Arizona' & 'I Shot Jesse James' (the latter is excellent) and parts of 'House of Bamboo' with Robert Ryan. Never have made it all the way through 'The Big Red One' though I probably should.

I'd like to see 'Thieves After Dark' most of all.

I've never seen "Thieves After Dark". I think "the Big Red One" was his great work. I love the potboiler stuff but I really think that was an overlooked great film.
