Together with Derren Nesbit and the late Ronald Lacey and Dudley Foster, one of those wonderfully creepy lookiing actors from the 60s and 70s.

The late wife met him a few times at AA meetings, IIRC (I think I do, but I'm getting older by the second). She liked him a lot, and she was a pretty good judge of that kind of thing.
As for his acting career, he made the difficult transition from creepy villain to lovable old duffer very well.
