Hollywood Greats In Modern Films.
I don't know what the cut off should be, pre 1960’s or something? But the general gist is can you match an iconic actor/actresses from yesterday acting in a modern film of today?
Examples like, can you imagine rock Hudson as Indiana jones?, Bogart as doyle in the French connection?
Or is it simply to difficult due to the differences in acting between their time and now?
Can you think of any iconic Actors/Actresses that would actually suit roles in some of the more modern films?

Seriously, though - Lillian Gish - silent era Griffith actress who starred in sound films like The Night of the Hunter and even the much later Whales of August, must be the longest time span for any actor or actress

Great idea for a thread, Markus, although given the fact that people like Davis and Cagney went on working until the - and in many cases their - 80s, it's probably better to talk about figures from the past at their pick rather than impose a formal cut off date...
That said someone like Cagney would have been a shoo in for the Joe Pesci role in Goodfellas. Had Tarantino been directing, he would probably have gone for someone like Mickey Rooney (not such a stretch if you've ever seen him in Mike Hodge's Pulp from the early 70s. Am sure someone like Tarantino would have had a lot of fun with actors like MR and Fred McMurray - perfect in Wilder's Double Indemnity yet remembered by many for saccaharine crap like My Three Sons. A bit more controversially, you could presumably also consider someone like Rock Hudson for Philadelphia...Someone like the great WC Fields would also surely have found a home in Tim Burton's movies...

Judy Garland would've made a great Betty in Mulholland Drive.

I would watch all of these. I'm also assuming in this hypothetical world these actors are under contract with the old studio system--so they don't get a choice in the matter.

He was a talented song and dance man, too (Yankee Doodle Dandy), so given the subject matter, just imagine how good
he'd have been in Chicago

Seriously though no she mustn't. First screen credit 1912 last 1987 = 75 years
I knew as a bit of trivia that there were only two actors who had appeared in silent films and also a film in 21st century. Of those John Gielgud first 1924, last 2000 = 76 years giving him second place, but the granddaddy of this match up is Mickey Rooney, first film credit 1926, last 2015 not even released yet = 89 years !!

Someone mentioned mcqueen for the film drive. It's almost a no brainer.

I think Audrey Hepburn could have been a star in the modern era. I could imagine her, with minimal tweaks, taking on Scarlett Johansson's role in Lost In Translation.

I think lots of famous actors would be great in contemporary films - Robert Mitchum, Joseph Cotten and William Holden to name a couple male actors.

Shirley Temple would have been just as good as Kenny Baker doing R2D2.
