Board downtime, Decemeber 20th.

Postby JQW » 13 Dec 2012, 19:48

The server on which this site runs is being moved to another location within the datacentre on December 20th.

The move will take place sometime between 9pm and 11pm GMT, and will result in the server being unavailable for up to an hour whilst everything is sorted out.

Could you extend the downtime?

So phpBB will basically be doing a bit of house cleaning up before the end of the world on December 21st.

Well, that went badly wrong.

Once the server came back up again, the database table that holds all login information got smashed. As this is the only table that resides in memory, and not on disk, it's no loss getting it damaged, but I still needed to login to the server's admin tools to fix it.

Unfortunately the URL to get to the admin tools no longer works. It connects to a TCP port other than the standard port 80 used by most webservers, so I suspect it's been inadvertantly blocked by a firewall.

I've logged a support call to get the admin tools thing fixed, and in the meantime uploaded my own copy of the database side of them, and used those to fix things.
