English club football 2022-23 and counting

Postby Rayge » 31 May 2018, 16:37

Well, last season's over, isn't it, and any moves over the summer will be about next season, so...
And why just the Prem, when there are fans of EFL clubs on here, too?
Separate threads for the national team, though, eh?

Looks like Real want Pochettino. I'd be surprised if they didn't get him as they usually get their man.

Looks like they didn't want him after all - or, possibly, he made it quite clear they could shove it

I'm intrigued by Forest's free-spending summer, with numerous arrivals including £13m signing Joao Carvalho and £6m Lewis Grabben. It looks like record season ticket sales and lucrative new kit and sponsorship deals are funding this. Let's hope it doesn't all go tits up....

Well and truly Pulissed on Friday.

Much as it pains me to praise Dirty Leeds, Bielsa has got them playing, getting out of them something last seasons coaches couldn't. If we can keep up with them, we'll both go up.

Yes, I know, ta. There's another thread for Premier league, too, but they both started after this one and the latter is frequented by fuckwits, so I'm going to stay over here, thanks :)

I don't follow soccer at all, but this came across my timeline from Forbes about Manchester United.

Apparently MU had a turnover last financial year of over £500 million, but still owe £497 million of the £525 million the Glazers borrowed to buy the club. They have paid off only £3 million per year of the debt since the purchase, but pay £24 million a year to service the debt.

But they owe it to the Glazers, so it doesn't really matter. It's not like they've got creditors banging at their door!

As I understand it, the debt is the money that the Glazers borrowed to buy the club, which they then put against the club's accounts. I'm not an accountant, but it seems odd that it would be owed to the Glazers. Surely it is owed to the institutions that the Glazers borrowed it from in the first place.

My goodness. I've never seen Manchester United so broken as just now.
Shocking pinks indeed.

I think Derby are likely to win the Championship this season.... at 10/1 still, they're excellent value-for-money.
