Uefa have already ruled out eithr or both Glasgow clubs playing in England.

The "casual" Rangers fan is more likely to give up watching football in Scotland completely and watch the EPL on Sky instead, perhaps saving up to go to a couple of games per year in England with their adopted team rather than, say, half a dozen or so Motherwell home league matches or big Cup games.

It would take years, perhaps generations, to un-assimilate the levels of tribalness with all that 90-minute bigotry to undermine.

I think that's what'll happen too.

It'll take a decade at least but what else are we gonna do with scottish football? It can't get worse so or less competitive so let's get on with it. I think the bigotry and tribalism is less of an issue on the east coast or the north east. Without Rangers Aberdeen definitely would pick up new fans.

If you don't see the danger in that, then I suddenly understand how the Patriot act got passed.

I can't speak for the north-east, but in my experience it's almost as bad in Fife as it is in Ayrshire.

Have they ruled on a newly formed club playing in England?

Presumably they'd quote precedent. Didn't they do something similar when Wimbledon explored moving to Dublin?

dublin is a different country though rather than a different region of the same country with some (tiny)
existing overlap of footballing sides associations

The last time I looked, Scotland was a different country as well. As I'm sure our Scots contingent will tell you in no uncertain terms...

Yup, but maybe precedent will be Swansea / Cardiff playing in the English Championship / EPL

only if you get very technical on differences between countries and states. there is absolutely no possible overlap between england and dublin, there are already all sorts amongst the constituent parts of the uk.

its hardly a technicality, what passport to scottish people have? what passport do people from dublin have?

not having a go at scotland at all, I'm welsh and would never want to be considered english, but i'm still a uk subject just like the scots are, and we have a league but our best teams play in the english set up. It's hardly an impossible idea. Dublin on the other hand is a totally different state

Wrexham play in the English league too. Newport County used to before going bust.

And Berwick play in the Scottish League.

My point is simply that the English and Scottish authorities are not going to let Rangers (or Celtic) play in the English league. Does anyone here really think for a moment that they would?
