I made a concerted effort not to give myself a brain hemorrage this time. So, a lot of things didn't make the first swipe that should have. no matter. I've got my health to think of. cough.

but brain hemorrages are so much funnnnn, cage.

anyway, my breakdown by year...

1980 ... 3
1981 ... 4
1982 ... 2
1983 ... 1
1984 ... 3
1985 ... 3
1986 ... 2
1987 ... 2
1988 ... 4
1989 ... 1

examining the above, we can see that there is no clear year preference, no decade top-heaviness or bottom-heaviness, no absolute zero picks for any year... in essence, no real reason whatsoever to show a breakdown by year.

I've sent in my list. Given my tastes tend more towards European film, I was quite surprised at how US dominated the final 25 were. It looks a strong body of films though and made me think the 80's were much stronger than is sometimes acknowledged.

The breakdown:

1980 -2
1981 - 2
1982 - 3
1983 - 3
1984 - 5
1985 - 1
1986 - 4
1987 - 2
1988 - 2
1989 - 1

Did you go for Revenge of the Nerds and Revenge of the Nerds II or just Revenge of the Nerds?

I had to leave it out in the end because I realised I'd forgotten to put in Police Academy III.
A tough choice, but what could I do?

I guess I favor the early 80's, when some residue of the 70s was still in play:

80 - 6
81 - 3
82 - 3
83 - 2
84 - 3
85 - 1
87 - 2
88 - 4
89 - 1
I wanna rip it rock it, really bop it
Flip it, flop it, davy crockett...

Not my favourite decade for film, by a long chalk. I think of all the films I chose, there are maybe six flat-out masterpieces, a dozen very good films and some slightly sentimental choices making up the numbers. I enjoy 80s music far more than 80s movies, possibly because the really rank music of the 80s ended up featuring heavily in movies!

My breakdown is interesting:

1980 - 1
1981 - 0
1982 - 1
1983 - 2
1984 - 3
1985 - 6
1986 - 2
1987 - 3
1988 - 6
1989 - 1

Intersting to see that my list is skewered towards the mid and late years of the decade. This is partly because I never had much of an interest in film before my university years (1983-1986), and it was basically 1985 when I became a regular filmgoer. After graduating, I would spend weekends in London just going round cinemas; on a good weekend, I'd see two or three new movies in the West End on Saturday, before going to a double- or even triple-bill of classic films at the Everyman in Hampstead. Happy days!

This time I've played, because I've actually seen a much greater percentage of the 'important' films than for the later decades. Hope I didn't miss the "Saturday 22" deadline...

Mine are in, cheers Algroth!

As I write this I'm being chastised by my girlfriend for not including My Neighbour Totoro or Come and See on my final list. The fact I've seen neither film leaves me open for more teasing, apparently.

Films I considered but couldn't find room for:
The Vanishing (Spoorloos)
Down By Law
Wings of Desire
Blade Runner
Rumblefish
Gallipoli
The Elephant Man
Ran
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Fitzcarraldo
Raiders of the Lost Ark
L'argent
Blood Simple
Society
Strikebound
The Sacrifice
High Tide
Robocop
Sweetie
Distant Voices, Still Lives
Do The Right Thing
The Killer
This is Spinal Tap
Time of the Gypsies

Just got mine in; hope it's not too late.

I noted more comedies in my picks than I would have thought before I assembled them.
