Daal - Decalogue of Darkness

Another Italian band (well, a duo) that is new to me.

Very highly rated on progarchives so worth trying I assumed. Safe assumption as it happens, as this is excellent instrumental slightly spacey prog.

Recommended.

Ukrainian Antony Kalugin’s band Karfagen’s album from 2018.

I have dipped toes in with his quite prolific output in recent years and have been disappointed and nearly didn’t bother with this one.

Glad I did. Decent. Instrumental with excellent guitar. Guess I better look back and see what it was that disappointed me on the others I listened to. Maybe I’ve seen the light....

Well, it was a covers album ... and about 15 or more years ago. I like Plant. He's released some stunning, imaginative work this century.

by his definition you shouldn't be listening to his old crap and be looking for new and exciting stuff.

Who's for Greta Van Fleet then? I believe Lord Percy approves.

Yes indeed. Great fun, but you need to get past the obvious Plant / Zep comparisons.

Disc one comprises performances by The Mothers of Invention spanning the period from 1966 to 1969. "My Guitar" had been previously released as a single in 1969. Disc two comprises performances from the summer 1982 tour of Europe.

Disc 1 is good but Disc 2 will knock your socks off.

Very nice post rock indie album from Finland. Nothing too ambitious but well put together and a pleasant listen.

Nearly 6 months on and I am still enjoying this. It’s comfortable.

The album was released in 2012 but that was it as they appear to have disbanded. Shame as I like a bit of post rock with vocals as it adds a dimension that makes the sound a little less formulaic.

By turns, brilliant, infuriating, puerile, childish, astonishing, mesmerising and weird.

I don't like the silly stuff, but I love the jam stuff, and some of the guitar playing is breath taking. Disc two in particular. But all that nonsense about Terry Bozzio and the guitarist from Asia. Grow the fuck will you.

Their final album Modern Masquerades produced by Ian McDonald is very good indeed. The first two suffer from their ambitions exceeding their ability to play very well.
