yes.

i was watching a Monty Python film with my girlfriend several months ago, and we happened to stroll into the 'special features' of the dvd. we found a minifilm about a chocolate factory that accidentally sold chocolate bars with human meat in them, following an accident on site. people liked human meat, but not cow meat in their chocolate, as was discovered.

anyway. credits roll by, and Chick Anthony is credited for having mastered the sound of it. Chick Anthony's my grandad on my mum's side.

i now remember him telling me about it, following a conversation we were having on why he didn't like monty python.

...which makes you the biggest celebrity on the Bone since Elliot Easton stopped signing in. (Actually, I don't think he ever made it over here, so you may be the guv'nor after all).

Plenty of unusual production credits in the early 80s.

Joe Cocker had an album, "Sheffield Steel", produced by premier reggae rhythm section Sly and Robbie. (In an interview, Sly Dunbar later revealed that it was one of their proudest projects - they loved Cocker's voice.)

Joni Mitchell's "Dog Eat Dog" was produced by electro boffin Thomas Dolby.

And David Byrne seemed a very odd choice of producer for the Fun Boy Three's "Waiting" LP.

David Gates producing Captain Beefheart's Legendary A&M Sessions (and writing Moonchild) has to be way up there.

Good album too. Cocker's version of Brenda Russell's "So Good, So Right" is wonderful.

Not half as odd as The Damned's 'Music For Pleasure' being produced by Pink Floyd's Nick Mason, although the band wanted Syd Barrett as producer.

Ric Ocasek producing Suicide and Bad Brains was an eyebrow-raiser back in the day.

And what a crap production that is.

Dolby also shows up as guest musician and George Clinton's vocal foil on Some Of My Best Jokes Are Friends. Surprisingly, his dry British delivery works really well with Clinton's slurring funk vocals. In fact the "basic training in the ghetto" chant in the title track is kind of moving in an all-men-are-brothers way. Much more so than that "Ebony and Ivory" weepy shit.

Lou Reed wrote songs with Kiss for their Music From The Elder record. The songs sound exactly like you would think a collaboration between Lou Reed and Kiss would sound.

Steve Hoffman (yes, THAT one) has a co-writing credit on The Pixies' Bossanova.

Well actually it was, as it took till his 4th album before we were thanked by name, on the first it was "family" and then nothing on the next two.

Rare UK Bird - Camera Obscura

This is a very rare Japanese compilation of early Camera Obscura material, the sleevenotes of which thank me, my wife and my dog. I think our credit comes before Stephen Pastel's.

I just bought this -

- and was surprised to see that it was engineered by Bill Price (Clash, Sex Pistols) and Roy Baker (presumably Roy Thomas Baker)...

And the text for the cover comic was written by John Junkin (Shake from A Hard Day's Night)!

EDIT: On further inspection, it turns out that Junkin wrote or co-wrote a majority of the songs on the disc, as well...
