Why?? Apart from "Words" it's a great album, from where I'm sitting. Nothing near the greatness of Tonight's The Night, but certainly a helluvalot better than Stars & Bars and Comes a Time.

Before Matt says it, I think Hunky Dory came out late ‘71 not ‘72 but happy to be wrong.

.

You're right, December 17th 1971. But I reckon we can round that up to 1972 :D
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Top 5, reluctantly: Bowie and Roxy, TAAB and Foxtrot... and Sailin' Shoes because I still love every note of it

But might as well have been: Clear Spot, Octopus, Steely Dan, Yes and either of the Zappas.

Bubbling under: Manassas, Jackson Browne, Alice Cooper, Hot Tuna, Cooder, Dead, Rundgren, Stones...

All five would make a personal top 30, the last two in that list probably a top ten. What a year!

I missed the Roxy debut!! That would, clearly, be in my list too.
