Hendrix also helped arrange CSNY's version of "Woodstock" - playing bass on the Stills demo!

Part of what made Stills so great at that point is he did so many different things well, and could hold his own with the likes of Hendrix (and Neil, for that matter).

That said, I'm not sure there are any truly great individual songs here - I think it's all about the performance. (What an odd arrangement "Love The One You're With" has, for example - but it totally works!)

it just sounds so great and gleeful somehow.. i guess just a buncha talented fucquin people having a blast being themselves... led by stephen

Didn't know about the Hendrix Woodstock connection - thanks.


Yes, the performances are touched with magic. Love the One You're With has been covered by a few artists, the most notable for me being the Isley's version, don't think the others have received any veneration and I'm not aware of cover versions.

Might be the one that stands on its own best. Or maybe "Black Queen" since it's all him (though as Stills says himself in the liner notes, the tequila helped).
