I've already derailed Matt Wilson's Zappa thread
As I'm getting loads of interesting covers lately, I've decided to create a separate thread
This one's not entirely working, but I love the theremin

Hey Charlie,
It's been a while. Happy to read you.
Yes, Hans Vandenburg, Gruppo's bandleader is a great fan of FZ's music.
I was a fan, back in 1978.

Backatcha, mudshark! Yeah, I played the U.S. comp Mistakes quite a bit ca. '79.
Back to Zappa covered - if y'all haven't checked out The Ed Palermo Big Band, you should.

I know. I like it. This thread had me dig out some old CD's: Zappatistas, but especially Ensemble Ambrosius. That's excellent stuff. I'll drive up and bring you a copy.

He says he will Charlie, but he'll probably stop for a quiet drink on the way and wake up in Shanghai with a full beard.
That's what he's like these days.

Re: Zappa covered
Not technically a cover, as this was the first (only?) recording - but it was written and effectively produced by Frank, with Eric backed for the occasion by some of Frank's favorite LA session cats:
(Frank did recycle the intro for "No Matter What You Do", heard on 'Tis The Season To Be Jelly.)

Total Immersion - Radio 3 In Concert
The BBC Symphony Orchestra covered Zappa at a Barbican Concert recently. It was subsequently broadcast on Radio3 and is available to hear for another week or so on the BBC's website. The music was mostly from his 1993 Yellow Shark LP (also two pieces by Igor Stravinsky and one by Edgard Varèse, supposedly favourites of FZ's)

Not bad at all...
Here's some Frenchies with a church organ (I think it's great)
