Been delving into the great Japanese master of off-kilter electronic art and piano-tastic ambience lately. Especially the early days, where post punk met electronics showed him to be a massive progenitor of so many different genres. Take this for instance...it seems ageless even if it may sound aged...I hear Cabaret Voltaire taking notes, Tarantino wanking all over himself over it, it has that anime-appeal and creative mass-appeal of so many current home studios...
So where are you at with this artist?
If his importance in music wasn't important enough, this article depicting himas a fashion icon gives him another edge...

I discovered him in high school in Tokyo, and somehow scored free tix for YMO's Farewell Concert at the Budokan in 1982. His solo work is perhaps even more interesting. Not just the soundtrack work, but indeed the aforementioned ambient stuff, too. MOJO had a nice sleep-themed freebie in one issue, featuring various artists doing the soporific, and of course he was on there, too.

I adore Sakamoto - I loved the Yellow Magic Orchestra too.
These two are probably my faves:

BTTB is terrific. Together with Async and Flumina the best of his latter day albums.
His live home performances during the pandemic were awesome too.

Big fan here. Everything from YMO through all solo and collaborative work.
Favourite solo hard to pin down but Neo Geo, Beauty and Out of Noise among my favourites.
In collaborative work I love Insen.

Yes. With the German bloke that uses two names

Good tips, I want to hear more.
Did you know that Peter Buck borrowed the Losing my Religion riff from Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence?

Re: Ryuichi Sakamoto
When my two boys were about 6 and 7 they used to dance around to this when I used to play it in the car
They are both now 6 foot 2, surly and don't even want to engage with me let alone dance - bloody teenagers!
Anyway, let's all have a bop now
