I really don't know enough about either band to say, but in both cases this is largely because I don't like the singers, so I never listened to them much. Too bloody shouty for my tastes.
I'm not sure why, but I always think of this strain of British singer as classless Janis Joplin wannabes. And I really don't like Janis Joplin.

I've voted Maggie Bell because I despise 'Pearl's a Singer'.
Bugger off.

You are right on that front. But that song had nothing to do with Vinegar Joe.

I'm with Tym. I can't abide that strangled "passionate" style of singing. Joplin, Cocker Chapman and the like.

I saw both bands live.

Stone the Crows were better but Elkie was better than Maggie.

So on that front it’s a draw

Regarding their albums I would say Vinegar Joe just had the edge

That said, they are both powerful singers with a great stage presence

I know. Like I said, I'm not familiar enough with either band's music to make an educated choice, so I voted on the basis of personal prejudice.

Both lower league bands. Never going to make it big because the music was just so average

Agreed - that’s the point.

It was the music that was lacking rather than the vocalists

A good match up here but both bands with shrieky voiced OTT singers which I actively disliked, so I avoided them both. On this occasion if there was a footy option here that would be the one I'd go for.
