The greatest album run in Motown history

Postby GoogaMooga » 29 Jun 2020, 17:37

I think it's down to two contenders: Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.

Stevie:

Music of My Mind
Talking Book
Innervisions
Fulfillingness' First Finale
Songs in the Key of Life

Marvin:

What's Going on
Trouble Man
Let's Get it on
I Want you
Here, My Dear
In Our Lifetime

Definitely Marvin.

I've tried with Stevie, he's just never really clicked with me. There's something about his sound that prevents me from loving his music - after about 3 or 4 songs I want to change to another artist. Marvin however produces albums that I can listen to all the way through.

As an artist I much prefer the work of Smokey Robinson to either Marvin or Stevie, but he struggles to put out more than 2 great albums in a row, though the three album run of Smokey, Pure Smokey and A Quiet Storm is excellent.

No no no it's neither.

Motown had better artists than those two losers.

Marvin for me, his highs are higher, I feel. Stevie's album run is perfect, but does not attain the same heights as the best from What's Goin' On.

I agree but will take Marvin over Stevie.
