Gong's 'downfall' to mainstream was they were just too 'out there' - hippy-dippy

Not macho enough

A shame really but they stuck to their guns until the end

I am not sure to what extent the youngsters (under 35s) have picked up on them

I don't know if every I have told you this, but pb and I went to see Gong on the south coast in Brighton - a small venue.

Now, I have been to hundreds of gigs in my time but this was, in a sleepy seaside venue, the first time I had ever been searched for weapons!

And at a Gong gig for fucque sake!!

Not much people lump them in as wacky at least Hillage is known in the techno scene - he has even been called the grandfather of techno guitar.
With all the space rock and stoners today you would think Gong would fit in.

Saw on the last tour they had Ed Wynn(Ozric) solo as the opening act. Would love to see Steve and Ed play together.

wow. a common thing here in the states, i've had my purse searched a zillion times.. but over tthere?? makes ya wonder if the powers-that-be there got some kinda off-the-wall warning or some such.
