18 Vinyl Albums Every Man Should Own

Postby Quaco » 11 Dec 2018, 14:01

This is what it's come to. An article from one of those sites that teaches men what shoes to buy and how to smoke a cigar.

https://www.themanual.com/culture/recor ... hould-own/

What a man listens to says a lot about his personality. Show your guests that you have a refined and unique taste. Having a great vinyl collection is also a great conversation starter for guests and can set the perfect mood for a dinner party or afternoon at home with friends and family.

THE LIST:

Ziggy Stardust ("teeming with cinematic sounds that depict both an otherworldly atmosphere and a decaying future")

Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim

Sgt. Pepper's

Bitches Brew

Legend - Bob Marley ("a versatile choice for shaving, barbecuing, or even chowing down at the dinner table ... a mainstay choice for both reggae and music lovers alike")

Highway 61 Revisited ("Bob Dylan’s most personal piece of work")

Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison

Pet Sounds

40 Greatest Hits - Hank Williams

Waylon & Willie

Dark Side of the Moon ("atmospheric soundscapes and Roger Water’s mundane bass lines")

London Calling ("Indubitably the best post-punk album of all time")

Aja ("meticulous recording ... studio expertise ... a shoo-in among the 18 vinyl albums every man should own for their home collection")
Innervisions

Innerspeaker - Tame Impala

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea ("a great fit for any time and place, from rainy beach days to stirring summer nights")

Nevermind

Midnight Marauders - Tribe Called Quest

Fuck me, what a ridiculous waste of time and words.

Mind you, that link going to the page about "The 11 best pocket knives for everyday carry" offered some FANTASTIC reading!

"How to smoke a cigar"? Is this a parody site?
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

You're just mad because this site hasn't published "18 Chick-Rock Vinyls for the Babe in Your Life" in time for Christmas.

18 vinyls to play frisbee with before you die.

(I'll roll my own, thank you very much.)

This one would have been a bit more original:

The site isn't very current. It still has November stuff up. That tells me it's not very popular if they're not populating it with new content. But that's kind of a chicken and egg thing.
Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk!

Ziggy Stardust ("teeming with cinematic sounds that depict both an otherworldly atmosphere and a decaying future")

This sounds like someone who has not actually listened to the album. What cinematic sounds? Maybe he's thinking about Diamond Dogs.

As does the bit about the Dylan album.

And I'm glad to learn that Bob Marley appeals to "both reggae and music lovers".
