A lot of these suggestions are by artists who were once in a band and then went solo. I think it might be more interesting if you limit it to solo albums made as a side project whilst remaining in the band.

If I had to chose someone who recorded solo concurrent to band works, I'd have to go with Gasoline Alley.

That’s a good call although I tend to think of Rod as a solo artist who also recorded with a band rather than as a band member taking time out to do his own stuff. Besides which, wasn’t he still in the Faces for Every Picture? Surely the better album?
