What I heard so far is great - his best in years even - but the artwork is so ugly I wonder who on earth would want to buy any of these limited edition bundles:

Re: Look Now: New Elvis Costello out
Ths first single is his version of Unwanted Number, a song he wrote for the 1996 film Grace of my Heart (and performed by For Real at the time).

Only had a chance to play it the once but I would say it's a lot more consistent than his last few.
I agree about the artwork though, he was going for an Imperial Bedroom vibe so he's trying to get that Barney Bubbles idea in there, but i don't think it works.

I was immediately struck by the ugliness of the art, myself.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

It is! ... and there's just small a couple of contributions by Bacharach and Carole King (I was wrong, the latter has nothing to do with the song above), otherwise it's a band album with Nieve, Thomas and Faragher in top form. Some great group vocal arrangements too, which isn't something EC was famous for so far!
But why preach to the unconvertible...?

First listen loud, on the big hi-fi.
Can't get enough of the opening track, but everything else is really good too.

Enjoying what I've heard, Unwanted Number and Burnt Sugar - has more of a Bacharach feel, harkening back to Painted From Memory.
I would guess the artwork is from the EC art school that gave us the Blood and Chocolate cover.

His best album since Brutal Youth. Some excellent songwriting. It is patchy but the low points are easily bearable.
