Apparently EMI wanted "James and the Cold Gun" as the lead single off this. It would be interesting to know if the reception to that would have killed off her career!

I was thinking that I have never read a Kate Bush biography which is insane given how much I love her. I don't know anything about any of them - I think one of them is called Under the Ivy - can anyone recommend one?

Yes, Graeme Thompson’s ‘Under The Ivy’ is a decent read.

I have Under The Ivy - it's highly rated but some, but I found it loaded with supposition (and some plain inaccuracy around the music).

The problem with Kate is that there is so little really known about her. Or there are people who know, but they aren't telling. I really can't remember any books on her that even begin to approach the kind of detail a fan such as yourself may need.

That's interesting that both of you have two different opinions.
In a way, her desire for privacy may have played a subconscious role in me not wanting to investigate too much about her.

Q. Kate was the first UK female solo artist to self-pen a No.1 UK single with Wuthering Heights in 1978. Who was the second?

Criteria :
- Be solo female artist - credited as solo performer.(Have no featured performers beside themselves)
- Be a UK citizen when they had the no.1.
- Have self-penned the single both words and music with no co-writers.
- Obviously have been at no.1 on the official UK singles chart for 1 week or more

Have fun kids!

Apparently neither "Good Tradition" or "Twist In My Sobriety" reached number one... the former of which really surprised me.
